Tom Owenby is a 28 year-old student at the Kyung Hee University Graduate Institute of Peace Studies in South Korea. He is planning on completing his master's degree in Peace and Global Governance in June 2007. Tom is currently writing his thesis, taking Korean language courses, working part-time, and giving thanks that McDonalds has begun serving its breakfast menu in Korea, which he enjoys in moderation. In addition to his studies, Tom enjoys playing soccer, riding his bicycle, public transportation, reading, and traveling.
Born is Isfahan, Iran and raised in Aurora, Colorado, Tom moved to the Midwest for his undergraduate experience, attending and graduating from Beloit College. While attending Beloit, he competed in football, basketball, and track, as well as performing in a multitude of modern dance shows. In addition to these pursuits, Tom participated in the 2001 AIDS Walk, as well as the 1997-2001 'Players Ball' fund raisers for the Beloit Battered Women's Shelter.
Tom is a veteran of the 2003, 2005, and 2006 DBrowne rides. He is participating in this ride to honor the memory of his maternal grandparents, Leona and Eugene Edick, David Browne, and to help fund the sorely needed research of the American Heart Association. Tom would like to remind everyone to check their blood pressure regularly and to stay active.
